The Clinical Study of Child Psychiatric Outpatients


Abstract
The author studied retrospectively the clinical characteristics of 119 child psychiatric outpatients who made their first visit to Department of Neuropsychiatry, Young-San Hospital, Chung Ang University, from July 1990 to June 1991. The results were as follows:
1) The sex ratio(male: female) of these 119 children was 2.1 : 1 and age distribution of these children were in following order: preschool age(4-6yrs) 42, high elementary school grades(10-12yrs) 33, low elementary school grades (7-9yrs) 31, below toddler age(0-3yrs) 13.
2) The main problems visiting our clinic were in following order: behavior problem 34, somatic complaints 17, developmental delay 16, speech problem 15, elimination problem 11, emotional problem 10 and others 16.
3) Diagnostic distribution of these children was in following order: mental retardation 22, anxiety disorder 16, autism 13, ADHD 13, somatoform disorder 13, enuresis 10, conduct disorder 7, developmental speech delay 6, others 19.
4) The distribution of sibling orders of these children was in order of first born 47, last born 40, only child 27 and intermediated born 5 which were all females.
5) The number of therapeutic session was in following order: two to four session 48, five to nine session 31, only one session 28, more 10 ones 12.
6) The living place of these children was in following order: in Seoul 58, near hospital area 26, in Kyeung-Ki Do 26 and in other remote area 12.
7) The referral source of these children was in following order: parents or relatives 63, interdepartmental 36, outside of Young San Hospital 20.
